What is Unified Carrier Registration?

The Unified Carrier Registration Program was developed to assist in funding FMCSA support and enforcement expenditures. There is currently a proposed fee increase on the table for 2010. Program registration has continued to be approximately 75% below original projections since it was instituted. This problem, in conjunction with the current federal and state deficits, has caused federal and state agencies to step up enforcement. Stricter enforcement leads to more fines. More fines mean MORE MONEY IN THE GOVERNMENT POCKET and LESS MONEY IN YOURS. By simply entering your DOT number into their computer, enforcement officers will know instantly if you are currently enrolled in the UCR program. Penalties and fines vary for each state and can be much more expensive than the cost of registration, especially for the small business trucker. It is important that your DOT information be up to date because you will be charged according to the information provided to FMCSA.
